Touch Policy

SUPER SCHOOL-AGE CARE TOUCH POLICIES
It is the policy of Super School-age Care to inform parents of the nature and type of routine physical contact their child will experience while in my care. There is no physical punishment at my child care at any time. It is my belief and practice that children need nurturing, adult physical contact for their care and healthy development.
This contact can be described in three ways:
• Nurturing: This includes hugs, non-intimate kisses, handholding, gentle tickling, back rubbing, and giving high-fives. This type of contact is never made against the expressed wishes of the school-ager.
• Safety and Guidance: This includes restraining children from harmful situations, separating physically conflicting school-agers, examining cuts & bruises or unusual marks, directing school-agers by gently leading or guiding them, and administering first aid to injuries and also sunscreen and insect repellent.
• Hygiene: This includes face and hand washing, assisting with bathroom duties (for example helping to snap and zip up pants). This only occurs if the child verbally asks for assistance.
It is also my belief that it is normal and healthy for children to express affection with their peers. This includes hugs, high-fives, hand holding, gentle tickling, and non-intimate kisses. I insure that this type of contact is never made against the expressed wishes of the child.
I/We have read and understand the above policy.
